Privacy policy

Vadret.today is an ad-free weather forecast for Sweden. This page explains what information is handled when you use the service — and what is not.

The short version: no account, no ads, no tracking, no cookie wall. Your location is not stored on our side — unless you turn on notifications, and then only what is needed to send them.

Data controller

Vadret.today is run by a private individual, Fredrik. Email for privacy questions: fredrik_768@hotmail.com. Write to us if you want to know what applies to your information, or to have something deleted. Favourites live only in your browser. Your location is not stored — the only thing stored is the notification subscription you switch on yourself, and it is deleted when you turn notifications off.

What we do not do

  • We have no accounts and no sign-in.
  • We show no advertising.
  • We use no marketing cookies and no third-party ad-tracking scripts (no Google Analytics, no Meta, TikTok or similar pixels).
  • We do not sell data and build no profiles of visitors.

What happens in your browser

Favourites and recently viewed towns are stored only in your own browser (localStorage). It stays on your device until you clear site data. It is not sent to our servers. When you search for a town, the search term is sent to the server to find matches, but it is not stored — it sits only in the server's memory for a short while and is never written down.

My location

The My location button uses your browser's location feature, and only when you press it. The page then receives approximate coordinates once, to pick the nearest town. The coordinates are not stored with us, never reach a database, and are not used for anything else.

  • If you prefer not to share your location: use search, the map or the list of towns. It works just as well.
  • We do not guess your exact address from your IP to pin down a town for you, either.

Notifications

Notifications are entirely optional. Nothing is stored until you switch them on yourself via the Alerts button on a town page. While notifications are on, we keep one database row tied to your browser's notification key: the town you chose (name, coordinates and path) and which alerts are active — weather warnings and/or rain within 15 minutes.

  • The key is generated by your browser and cannot be linked to your name or any account — there are no accounts.
  • We use the information only to send the notifications you chose, for the town you chose.
  • When you turn notifications off, the row is deleted immediately. Turning them off in your browser settings stops the sending too.

Operations and security

The site runs via Cloudflare. They may set a strictly necessary security cookie (such as __cf_bm) to stop bots and abuse. It is not used to follow you between sites or for advertising. Servers receive the ordinary technical traffic every website receives: for example IP address, time and the page requested. Such data may appear in temporary operational logs at the provider, so the site works and can be protected. We do not use it to identify you.

Weather data

Forecasts and observations come from other parties' open sources, mainly SMHI and Open-Meteo (CC BY 4.0) plus pollen from the Palynological Laboratory at the Swedish Museum of Natural History. More on the About page. When you look up a town, the town or coordinates are sent to the sources needed to build the forecast. We do not ask them to store anything about you.

Open API

The API at vadret.today/api is key-free. Call it reasonably and cache the response. Abuse may be rate limited.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right, among other things, to know whether we process data about you, to access it, correct it or have it deleted, and to complain. Since we do not store account or location information about visitors, there is normally no register to hand out or delete — with the exception of notification subscriptions, which are deleted as soon as you switch them off. Still, write to fredrik_768@hotmail.com if you would like us to consider a request. You can complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY), imy.se.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we update this page. Effective from 15 September 2026.
